LPG Bulk Tank Sitting and Separation Guidelines

LPG bulk tanks must always be located with specific separation distances as illustrated in the diagrams LPG Bulk Tank Siting guidelines for a domestic propertybelow.

Suitable protection (e.g. crash barriers, bollards and walls) must be provided at least 1.5 meters from the tanks to prevent mechanical damage to the tanks and equipment. Any wall used for this purpose should be no more than 380mm high and non-continuous.

The tank must be located so that the ZANA GAS tanker can get within 25m of the tank fill valve. Whilst standing at the tank, the ZANA GAS delivery driver must be able to see his vehicle at all times.image001

The tank can only be installed on a suitable concrete base, a minimum of 150mm thick. However, if the area is already made of concrete, no additional base is necessary.

Above ground tanks must not be sited directly beneath electrical power cables. Where the voltage is below 1kV, the tank must be located 1.5 meters from a plane drawn vertically downwards from the power cables. Where the voltage is 1kV or greater, the distance must be increased to 10 meters. Where there is any doubt as to the cable voltage guidance should be obtained from the local power supply company.

Separation Distances for 1200 Liter or 2000 Liter LPG Bulk Tanks

Notes:

The vehicle must be at least 3m from any manhole during filling.image002

The pump assembly must be at least 3m from buildings, boundary, property or fixed source of ignition.

Dispensing hose anchoring point at least 4.1m from buildings, boundary or fixed source of ignition.

Fire walls should be sited between 1m & 1.5m from the nearest point of the vessel. With the wall in place the distance from the vessel to the buildings, boundary etc. may be reduced from 3m to 1.5m.

 Considerations

The property position is important for the set-up of the LPG bulk tank.

You can find your property through internet (for example through Google Earth). Select the location of your property and write the property address.image004

Planners will normally ask for a plan and elevation of installation to a scale of 1:500 or 1:200. This can be drawn easily by you. If you do not have a scale rule, we suggest using builders / architects scale rule available from leading stats hould indicate on the attached plan the specification of the ZANA GAS tank that has been selected for your installation.

Further details will be available from the Planning Department. We suggest that your covering letter could be similar to the example on below.
